Shady is a fictional character created by me, Dark Star.

She was created four years ago (Autumn 2003, to be exact) and comes from the Baldur’s Gate game series. At first I supposed this chaotic-neutral drow elf to be just a character to play a game with, but… How wrong I was! Some characters – and I should have known it! – just tend to attain they own free will to live, so Shady overstepped the bounds of the game and entered my life, becoming an independent person. So I find it queer to say that I own Shady, but if we’re talking about disclaimers, it’s truly so.

She’s not one of those characters that are being formed with ‘why not lilac eyes’ and ‘this name sounds good, why not take it’. I didn’t spend any time thinking whether she is a mage or a cleric, whether she likes apples or oranges, whether she accepts the heritage of her father Bhaal or denies it. She came to me at night, whispering her darkest stories ever told; I saw golden sparkles in her lilac eyes, I heard her laugh, I smelled her hair – mountain flowers and campfire smoke that time - and her snow white lock tickled my shoulder; I felt the beating of her pulse in my veins, and it felt like being a goddess.

Is Shady me? Both yes and no, I guess. Is she mirroring me? Well, but this mirror is a distorting one, then. She embodies many a dreams, hopes, fantasies, fears I dearly cherish, but she’s not me. She has her own mind and will, and, although I know her personality, sometimes even I find it hard to predict what she’s up to. There are a lot of things I still don’t know about her and her life, which was full of events, journeys, encounters, ups and downs.

My burning ambition is to write a novel about her.
Maybe then she would reveal some secrets that she still keeps even from me.
